On Tuesday, June 20th, the Washington Business Journal’s Michael Neibauer reported that “Golf will return to Loudoun’s Beacon Hill Community”. In his article It’s been 17 years since the golf club at Loudoun’s Beacon Hill shut down. A deal is finally done to bring it back. Niebauer states:
Haymarket’s Resort Development Partners has entered into a definitive agreement with the Beacon Hill Community Association to revive the links, with the course, originally called Golf Club of Virginia when it opened near Leesburg in 2001, slated to reopen in 2024 as “The Preserve at Beacon Hill,” the parties confirmed Tuesday. The course has been closed since 2006.”
The article includes a quote from Haymarket Resort Development Partner’s Frank Denniston who has said:
Our sleeves are rolled up and work begins next week to transform this property into an extraordinary golf experience commensurate with the beauty and prestige of the community,”
Apparently terms of the deal were not disclosed and RDP is not expected to announce details regarding membership, initiation fees and other amenities until mid-August 2023.
However, Neibauer goes on to state that:
The Business Journal has also learned that RDP will make a six-figure investment in non-golf amenities, to be used at the discretion of the Beacon Hill community, while every Beacon Hill homeowner will get a complimentary two-year social membership to the club when it opens.”
In a previous report on the status of the Beacon Hill golf course, it was reported that RDP would ground lease the 330-acre property, convert the 27-hole course to an 18-hole championship design in an initial phase, add a nine-hole family course in a later phase, and construct a new clubhouse with full-service dining and a golf game improvement center. The latest article mentions that
A source familiar with the deal had not heard anything to suggest those plans had changed.”
For most homeowners in the Beacon Hill Community this is tremendous news. The vote to bring golf back to Beacon Hill was not unanimous, but overwhelmingly in favor. Undoubtedly it will take years for the project to mature and restore the full glory of the original course. But for those of us who worked hard to bring golf back to Beacon Hill, this is an exciting achievement and red letter day in the history of our community.
